First Robotic Surgery in the World
Senthil is a Consultant Urological Surgeon and Honorary Associate Professor, working at University College London Hospital NHS Trust and University College of London. He super specializes in urological cancer surgery and minimally invasive treatments for them including Robotic surgery. He has done over 40000 urological operations and mainly specialises in complex major robotic surgeries.
He is the Director of Robotic Education at the Chitra Sethia Centre for Robotics and the Chairman of Urology at The Cleveland Clinic London. He is the Chair of the Uro-Oncology MDT and Director of Robotics & Surgical Innovations at Cleveland Clinic London. He is a member of the European Robotic Urology Society Education Committee, Urology Board of Society of Robotic Surgery and Committee member of Data for the Society of Endourology.
He graduated with honours from The Madras Medical College and completed his Masters in Surgery from Bangalore Medical College where he won The Association of Surgeons of India Gold Medal for securing the highest mark in the surgical exit exam. After working in general surgery and obtaining FRCS in Yorkshire he chose to be a Urologist and obtained Diploma in Urology while working at Royal Free Hospital. He secured an Honorary Lecturer position at Guys Hospital where along with Mr John Wickham and colleagues from The Imperial College he developed The Probot and carried out the first active robotic surgery in the world. Towards this he was awarded a MPhil in Urology by the University of London. He was trained at The Institute of Urology in London and obtained the Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh in Urology. He further gained a Fellowship of the European Board of Urology and a Diploma in Laparoscopy from the University of Strasbourg. He is a pioneer of numerous surgical techniques and has authored over 100 peer reviewed articles and delivered over 1000 lectures and live surgery.
Senthil is a member of numerous medical societies and a member of The Marylebone Cricket Club, The Travellers Club and The Madras Club. He is Director, Trustee and Medical Advisor to many Healthcare companies and philanthropical trusts.
